Through your generous gifts, the Merakey Foundation provides for those we serve in a variety of ways. Depending on the need and the request, our projects range in size and scale, however, all of them are important to the individual or group of individuals who benefit from your support. Here are some ways in which your dollars have contributed to making a difference in some very special lives.
Carmen, an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities and winner of Miss Amazing Delaware, traveled to Los Angeles, CA, with support from the Merakey Foundation, during summer 2015 to compete in the national Miss Amazing Pageant where she proudly represented her home state.
The Merakey Foundation supported 175 participants, families, and staff from Fresh Start and Merakey Parkside Recovery in attending “Recovery Night with the Phillies” at Citizens Bank Park, in Philadelphia, to celebrate Recovery Month in September.
Merakey Montgomery County hosted their first Peer Support Conference at one of their sites in Colmar, PA in July 2015. Sponsored by the Merakey Foundation, the conference provided resources and information about peer support services to community members.
In recognition of National Foster Care Month in May 2015, Merakey foster care families throughout Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties, PA were treated to a celebratory luncheon, contributed by the Merakey Foundation, to acknowledge their services and commitment to children in Merakey’s care.
Merakey programs and the Merakey Foundation collaborated with Montgomery County Youth Advisory Board (MCYAB) and collected toys and activities that were assembled into Peace & Smiles boxes. The gifts were distributed to Merakey programs during the holidays.
Merakey Delaware County hosted the second annual Community Health Fair at its behavioral health facility in Sharon Hill, PA in October 2015. The fair provided free health screenings, healthy foods, and resources on healthy lifestyles from a variety of vendors and community partners.
Golfers gathered in May 2015 to participate in the Merakey Foundation Scramble 4 Scholars Golf Tournament, in Camp Hill, PA. Proceeds from the event support tuition and other expenses for college students who attend Merakey programs.
Proceeds raised at the Corporate Golf Classic in June 2015, enables Fresh Start to participate in the therapeutic horseback riding program at Thorncroft Equestrian Center in Malvern, PA. Several beneficiaries of the program participated in the event, welcoming golfers and performing a heartfelt version of The Star Spangled Banner.
The Merakey Center for Hope program in New York offers Youth and Police Initiative (YPI), a week-long training program providing education and resources to children. Police share their experiences and knowledge on how to reduce risks of illegal behaviors and how children can become contributing members of society. Expenses for the program are underwritten by the Merakey Foundation.
Merakey Foundation supports “Pantries of Pride” throughout the Merakey Schools and day programs by providing nutritious food to keep children healthy. Many children come from low income families and depend on our support to ensure healthy lifestyles.

Cash - Charitable gifts are most often made in the form of cash and checks. If you itemize your tax deductions, gifts of cash can eliminate or reduce tax on up to one-half of your adjusted gross income (AGI). Be sure to maintain receipts, acknowledgements, or bank records related to your gifts.
Honor - Give to honor an individual's birthday, anniversary, special accomplishment, reunion.
Memory - Gifts in memory of a loved one can be made all year long.
Gift in Kind - A Gift in Kind can be gently used clothing, furnishings, appliances, toys, books, etc.
Securities - Making gifts of stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds can bring extra tax savings. When making such gifts, always consider what the securities originally cost in relation to what they are worth today.
Life Insurance - Life insurance policies that have built up cash value but are no longer needed for their original purposes can make excellent charitable gifts. You may also find that including a charitable beneficiary for all or part of the proceeds of a life insurance policy can be a convenient way to provide a gift through your estate.
